7vortragen, Phormion und Karphinas, die jüngst eingetroffen sind, wolle beschließen
8das Volk: Da Phormion und Karphinas, von den Vorfahren her
9Freunde des Volkes der Athener, das Wohlwollen bewahren,
10das die Vorfahren ihnen anvertraut haben, gegenüber dem
11Volk der Athener, und jetzt mit Truppen zur Hilfe
12kommend, sich gemeinsam mit den Athenern mustern ließen, wie es
13der General befiehlt: dass man sie belobige wegen ihrer Leistung
14und bekränze einen jeden von ihnen mit goldenem Kranz;
15und da Phormion, den Großvater von Phormion und Karphias,
16das Volk der Athener zum Athener gemacht hat
17und dessen Enkel, und der Beschluss, durch den dieser
18Akt geschah, auf der Akropolis aufgeschrieben steht, dass für
19Phormion und Karphinas und ihre Nachkommen das
20Privileg gültig sei, das das Volk ihrem Großvater Phormion
21verliehen hat; dass sie sich Phyle, Demos und Phratrie
22wählen, sei es, welche sie wollen; dass man belobige auch die
23anderen Akarnanen, die zusammen mit Phormion
24und Karphinas zu Hilfe gekommen sind; und dass ihnen, bis sie
25zurückkehren, das Recht sei, die Häuser zu erwerben, die sie wollen, solange sie
26in Athen wohnen, frei von der Metökensteuer, und dass sie (hier) Recht
27geben und nehmen wie die Athener, und die Sondersteuern,
28wenn solche anstehen, gemeinsam mit den Athenern zahlen,
29und dass ihrer sich annehme der jeweils amtierende Rat
30die jeweils amtierenden Generäle, damit
31ihnen kein Unrecht geschieht; dass diesen Beschluss auf
32einer steinernen Stele aufzeichne der Sekretär des Rates und aufstelle
33auf der Akropolis; dass er aufzeichne auch die Namen der Akar-
34nanen auf dieselbe Stele und darunter die Städte
35Akarnaniens, aus denen ein jeder stammt; dass für die
36Aufzeichnung auf der Stele der Schatzmeister des Volkes dem
37Sekretär des Rates dreissig Drachmen gebe aus dem

1In the archonship of Chairondas (338/7), in the -
2prytany, of -, for which Philippos son of Antiphemos of Eiresidai
3was secretary. On the - of Thargelion,
4the - of the prytany. Of the presiding committee -
5of Erchia was putting to the vote. The People decided. Hegesippos son of Hegesias
6of Sounion proposed: concerning what the Akarnanians say,
7Phormio and Karphinas, who have recently come, the People
8shall decide: since Phormio and Karphinas, being ancestral
9friends of the Athenian People, are maintaining the
10good will, which their ancestors handed down, towards the
11Athenian People, and now having supported
12in force, were mustered with the Athenians, as the
13general commanded, to praise them for their excellence
14and to crown each of them with a golden crown;
15and since the Athenian People made Phormio the grandfather
16of Phormio and Karphinas an Athenian,
17and his descendants, and the decree by which this
18was enacted was inscribed on the acropolis,
19the grant which the People made to Phormio their grandfather
20shall be valid for Phormio and Karphinas and their descendants;
21and they shall choose the tribe and deme and phratry
22to which they wish to belong; and to praise also the
23other Akarnanians who gave support along with Phormio
24and Karphinas, and they shall have, until they return home,
25right of ownership of whatever houses they wish while they live at Athens,
26free of the metic tax, and shall bring and answer
27lawsuits like Athenians, and shall pay capital taxes,
28any that may be levied, with the Athenians;
29and the Council in office at any time shall take care of them,
30and the generals in office at any time, so that they
31suffer no harm; and the secretary of the Council shall inscribe
32this decree on a stone stele and stand it
33on the acropolis, and shall inscribe also the names of the
34Akarnanians on the same stele, writing them under the cities
35of Akarnania to which each belongs; and for inscribing
36the stele the treasurer of the People shall give
3730 drachmas to the secretary of the Council from the People’s
38fund for
39expenditure
